Pastor & Author
Shawn Reinsel
Hailing from Denver, Colorado, Shawn and his wife Dana raised six incredible boys, pastored Surrender Church, and have been a part of planting several churches and coaching pastors & leaders in the Church.
Shawn’s strengths include: teaching, biblical discipleship, & counseling. He is also skilled at movie trivia, sleeping like a boss, and reading books about the New Covenant.
In the interest of full transparency, Shawn is not good at administration, cooking, roller skating, Candy Crush, long road-trips, staying up late, or telling jokes (though he frequently tries his best).

The Problem
There is a lack of literacy in the Church when it comes to the all sufficient grace of God, especially concerning the doctrine of sanctification by grace alone.
The Solution
It is crucial for individuals within the Church to delve deeper into the concept of God’s all-sufficient grace and how it relates to the process of sanctification. By doing so, we can foster a healthier and more informed perspective on this essential aspect of our faith.
To begin with, sanctification is the ongoing process by which believers are transformed and conformed to the likeness of Christ. It is not a work that we can accomplish on our own strength, but rather a result of God’s grace working in and through us. This understanding is crucial because it prevents us from falling into the trap of self-reliance or legalism, recognizing that our own efforts alone can never achieve true holiness.
Grace is God’s unmerited favor and kindness towards humanity. It is the undeserved gift of salvation through Jesus Christ and the power that sustains and empowers us throughout our Christian journey. Grace is not just a one-time event but a continuous outpouring of God’s love, enabling us to grow and mature in our faith.
Combining these two concepts, we see that sanctification by grace alone emphasizes the dependency we have on God’s transformative power. It reminds us that our growth in holiness is not based on our own striving, but on surrendering to the work of the Holy Spirit within us.
Unfortunately, the lack of literacy surrounding this doctrine has led to misconceptions and misunderstandings within the Church. Some may view sanctification as a mere self-improvement project, detached from God’s empowering grace. This perspective hinders believers from experiencing the fullness of God’s transformative work in their lives.
Therefore, it is paramount for churches to prioritize teaching and equipping their members in the doctrine of sanctification by grace alone. Pastors and leaders can ensure that sermons, Bible studies, and discipleship programs emphasize the significance of relying on God’s grace for our growth in holiness. By nurturing a culture of understanding and embracing God’s all-sufficient grace, churches can foster spiritual maturity and deepened relationships with Christ.
The Mission
Simple Grace is the teaching and discipleship ministry of Shawn Reinsel. Our purpose is to help the Church to understand the simple truth of God’s grace and walk and grow in it.
We do this through speaking at conferences, retreats, ministry staff training seminars, online or in-person coaching, our book “Simple Grace”, discipleship internships, content creation, and community engagement.
Our goal is to do all this for free to the churches we serve by raising support.
Conference Topics include:
- Setting Your People Free for Real Ministry
- What is the New Covenant of Grace?
- Counseling with Grace
Simple Grace is born from the discipleship materiel developed at Surrender Church for the past 13 years. Originally, Pastor Shawn learned the message of Grace from Bob Hoekstra at Calvary Chapel Bible College in 2001 (find His teaching here). Over the years, through thousands of hours of practice, we developed a ten part discipleship course for individuals, pastors, and leadership teams. That one-on-one course is what led to the content of the book Simple Grace.
